Cleaning the sofa in Madinah: dust is the real enemy

Madinah's air is dry, and fine dust gets in through any gap in a window and settles into fabric; on dusty days you can see it on the cushions within…

Do this before requesting a quote

Madinah firms count either seats or whole sets, so the numbers you send decide the quote.

Count seats, not sofas

A 3+2+2 set is seven seats. Some firms count that way and some by piece, so put both in your message.

Vacuum the loose dust

Go over the sofa and rugs the day before. Wet fine sand becomes mud deep in the weave.

Photograph the fabric and label

A close-up of the fabric and a shot of any care label. Velvet and linen aren't cotton, and the company needs to know first.

Choose a still, dust-free day

No dust forecast and no guests a few hours later. If the weather service warns of dust, put it off.

⚠️ Just spilled something? Press a white tissue on it to lift what you can. Scrubbing, or reaching for kitchen spray, only drives it further in.

What spoils sofas and rugs in Madinah homes

Mostly dust, dry air and heavy use when guests come. The cleaner settles the treatment on sight.

Greyness back within a week

Fine dust clings to fabric, and dry air builds static that draws it in. Cleaning alone won't fix it; keep windows shut on dusty days.

One side of the sofa has faded

The sofa under the window gets strong Madinah sun every day. After a wash, keep covers and rugs indoors to dry rather than out under the sky.

Sand worked into the rug

It comes in on feet from the yard and street and cuts the fibres over time. Strong vacuuming before and after the wash.

Dark armrests and backrests

Oils from hands and hair, worst on majlis seating used by big families. It needs a proper product, not just steam.

A furnished flat between guests

Sofas in flats let to visitors get dirty fast in Ramadan and the holidays. One clean before the season and one after costs less than stains that won't shift.

Coffee and tea on the majlis

Hospitality stains are the commonest on floor seating. The fresher they are, the easier they come out.

Sofa set, floor majlis or rug?

Madinah firms price each one differently, so ask how they count before the number.

Sofa set

Priced by the seat, or as one set.

  • A 4-5 seat set is priced differently from a 7-8 seat one.
  • Scatter cushions: in the price or extra?
  • A corner (L) sofa counts as seats; count them.

Floor majlis

Seats, bolsters and armrests, sometimes the rug underneath.

  • Some firms charge it by the square metre.
  • Give the bolster count and get a single figure for the lot.
  • Tell them if there's a rug under the seating.

Rugs and mattresses

Living-room rugs, fitted carpet and bedroom mattresses.

  • A medium rug has one price; a large one costs more.
  • Is the mattress sanitised on both sides? Ask.
  • Heavy wool rugs are sometimes better washed at a workshop than at home.

On the day, and afterwards

Clear the way

Move side tables and ornaments away from the sofa, and leave room for the machine near a socket.

Windows shut, AC on

Drying is quick in Madinah, but with a window open on a dusty day, dust sticks to the damp fabric.

Keep it out of the sun

It's tempting to carry the rug up to the roof to dry faster, but the sun bleaches the colours.

Cover the sofa when you travel

Away for the summer? A light cloth cover keeps the dust off until you're back.

Questions to send ahead

Keep the answers in WhatsApp; you'll need them if the figure changes at the door.

  1. Counted by seat, or by set?

Send the seat count and ask for one final figure for the whole set.

  2. Do tough stains cost extra?

Madinah firms list SAR 50-80 for a piece with a hard stain. Find out first.

  3. Steam, or shampoo and extraction?

Ask what suits your fabric in particular, and whether they test a hidden corner first.

  4. How do you charge a floor majlis?

By the metre, by the seat, or one figure? Each firm has its own way.

  5. Do you charge to come out?

Some firms say there's none within Madinah's districts. Check if you live further out.

  6. Is the product safe for children?

Get the product's name, more so if anyone in the house reacts to dust or has asthma.

Reasons to hold back

Raise any of these before money changes hands.

50% off everything, always

A permanent big discount usually means an inflated starting price. Compare the final figure, not the percentage.

Never asks about the fabric

One product on every weave will ruin some of them.

Leaves before you've looked

Look over the stains and armrests with the team still in the room.

Soaks the fabric

Even in Madinah's dry air, padding that's very wet takes a long time and can start to smell.

Common questions

How much does sofa cleaning cost in Madinah?

Going by Madinah firms' 2026 price pages: about SAR 150 for a two-seater, 220 for a three-seater, SAR 200-300 for a 4-5 seat set, and SAR 300 up to 650 for a 7-8 seat set depending on the firm.

Why does the sofa get dirty again so soon?

Madinah's fine dust settles into fabric, especially with windows open on dusty days. Keep them shut, run the AC, and vacuum the sofa weekly.

Is drying quick in Madinah's dry air?

Quicker than on the coast, but the padding still needs hours. Ask the firm for your fabric's drying time and keep off it until then.

Does Laqeeni take commission?

It doesn't. You pick the firm and deal with it yourself, money included.
