A few minutes is enough. Switch it off at the remote first, then lift the cover; stay clear of wiring and gas pipes.
If no light comes through, it's choked with dust. Rinse it in lukewarm water, leave it to dry out of the sun, and try the AC again an hour later.
Is the fan turning? Are the fins furred with dust, or has a plastic bag or paper got stuck? A close-up photo for the technician helps.
After fifteen minutes of running, put a thermometer at the vent. Lukewarm air at midday but cold at night often points to an outdoor unit that's struggling, or a gas shortage.
If the unit cuts out and trips the breaker, try one reset; if it trips a second time, leave it off. Note the time it tripped and tell the technician.
❄️ Ice on the pipes or the indoor coil? Turn cooling off and run the fan only until it melts. Running it iced up harms the compressor.
A starting guess to help you explain. The technician pins it down after testing.
The filter and evaporator are blocked and the outdoor unit can't shed its heat. A full wash of both units brings much of the cooling back.
The outdoor unit is baking up top, or the gas is slightly low. A shade above it, with room left for air to move, takes some load off.
Usually a blocked filter, or refrigerant escaping from a leak. Topping up without finding the leak just brings the problem back.
Dust has built up unevenly on the outdoor fan blade, or its screws have worked loose. Clean and tighten it before it breaks.
Possibly a capacitor weakened by heat, a sensor, or an overheating compressor. A good technician measures before swapping parts.
Even in dry air, the drain hose clogs with dust and silt and water backs up into the room. Clearing it doesn't take long.
The type changes both the job and the bill. Tell the technician what you have and how many.
The norm in newer flats and villas.
Still common in older houses and some rooftop annexes.
In some villas and hotel-apartment buildings.
Before the heat sets in and technicians get booked up. A full clean and gas check ahead of summer.
Look at the filters within a few days. Many technicians suggest cleaning home units every 3 to 4 months in this climate.
For furnished-flat owners: test every unit two weeks before guests arrive, not the night before.
Demand is lighter and appointments come quicker. A good time to replace an old unit or move one.
Message these ahead of time and save the answers.
Some only do the indoor one. In Madinah, dust hits the outdoor unit hardest.
Advertised per-unit rates drop as the count rises. Ask for one written total.
Topping up without a repair means paying for gas that leaks away again.
Many do. Check before they come.
Especially for a compressor, capacitor or fan motor.
Roof work at midday in July is hard going and slows the visit down.
Not every one is a con, but if they keep happening, find someone else.
Refrigerant isn't consumed by normal running. If it's low each time, a leak hasn't been fixed.
A full clean covers the evaporator, drain hose and outdoor unit too.
Ask to see the reading or hear why. Sometimes it's a cheap capacitor.
A figure on WhatsApp saves an argument after the job.
Madinah figures for 2026, from request averages and AC firms' own price pages. Parts such as a compressor or fan are charged separately.
| Service | Rough price |
|---|---|
| Diagnosis visit (many deduct it if they repair) | SAR 70 – 150 |
| Cleaning one split unit | SAR 100 – 250 |
| Cleaning three split units together | About SAR 200 (one firm's offer) |
| Cleaning a window unit | SAR 150 – 390 |
| Full service of a split unit | SAR 150 – 300 |
| Split gas top-up | SAR 150 – 350 |
| Split removed and reinstalled | SAR 300 – 700 |
| Central system work | SAR 200 – 1,000 |
💡 Sources differ a lot: HomeRun shows an average of SAR 130 – 610 for split cleaning in Madinah, probably because some requests cover several units. Always ask whether a price is per unit or per visit.
🏢 Seven units or more, say a building of furnished flats? One Madinah firm advertises SAR 30 a unit beyond that number. Negotiate one contract for the whole season.
Sources: HomeRun's Madinah pages (2026 request averages) plus three AC firms' price pages for Madinah (June and August 2026), all opened in November 2026. Treat them as a yardstick, not a bill; the final figure is settled by you and the technician, and Laqeeni stays out of it.
Madinah firms advertise SAR 100 – 250 a unit, falling per unit when you have several (one firm lists about SAR 200 for three). Gas and parts come on top.
Many technicians in Madinah say every 3 to 4 months for homes, sooner where the outdoor unit sits exposed or after a heavy dust spell. You can rinse the filter yourself every couple of weeks in summer.
Because the outdoor unit is in full sun on a hot roof and can't get rid of the heat. Cleaning it and shading it, with space left for airflow, often helps; if not, have the gas measured.
Zero. The technician answers to you, and the whole payment goes to them.
