Moving within or out of Madinah: how to plan it

A Madinah move comes down to three things. Distance: another district is one job, while 420 km to Jeddah or 850 km to Riyadh is another, with its own…

Five minutes of prep for a more honest quote

A mover prices what they know about. Every missing detail becomes an extra on the day.

Where exactly are you going?

Another Madinah district, or Yanbu, Jeddah or Riyadh? Give the city and district from the start: a long run is priced completely differently and needs a bigger truck.

List the big pieces

How many beds, wardrobes and sofas, plus fridge, washing machine and oven. A photo of each room on WhatsApp replaces a survey visit for most moves.

Stairs and lifts, old place and new

What floor is each? Will a wardrobe fit the lift? Above the fourth floor with no lift, the firm may suggest a hoist, so ask its price in advance.

Where will the truck stop?

In districts close to the Haram and on narrow streets, find the nearest spot the truck can park and tell the mover. The walk from truck to door adds time and cost.

What spoils a move in Madinah

Most of it is avoided by agreeing things in writing before loading day.

Cracked wood and overheated screens

An open truck in July sun cooks furniture and electronics. Book an enclosed truck, and carry screens and computers in your own car.

Dust on mattresses and sofas

On a windy, dusty day, uncovered furniture arrives with a layer of grit. Plastic wrap on mattresses and fabric keeps it off.

A long-distance price that changes

You agree a Jeddah or Riyadh move by phone, then on the day there's more than expected. Send full photos and get the final figure written down.

The truck can't reach the door

Near the Central Area and in some older lanes, streets are tight. A smaller vehicle or two trips might be needed; get that priced from the start.

No slots in the busy seasons

Before Ramadan and during the Hajj season many firms are booked, and late bookings often end up in the evening. Book early.

A wardrobe that never goes back right

Taking it apart is easy; rebuilding is the test. Make sure a carpenter comes with the crew and that putting things back together at the other end is included.

Within Madinah or to another city

The kind of move decides the vehicle, the crew, and whether a second driver or an overnight stop is needed.

Within Madinah

Say, Al Khalidiyah to Al Aziziyah, or Qurban to Al Awali.

  • Usually done in one day if you start in the morning.
  • Ask whether basic dismantling and reassembly are included.
  • Only a few things? A dyna with two workers is cheaper than a whole crew.

To a nearby city

Yanbu, Makkah and Jeddah.

  • Price rises with distance; published prices for Makkah and Jeddah start around SAR 1,500.
  • Agree whether the same crew reassembles at the other end.
  • Ask about insurance or compensation if something happens on the road.

To Riyadh or Tabuk

A long haul, often a full day on the road.

  • Firms that publish prices start around SAR 2,800 for Riyadh.
  • Boxing small things yourself saves a lot.
  • Keep papers, gold and medicines with you, not in the truck.

Loading day

Start at or just after dawn

In summer the early hours are coolest, the crew is fresher and the roads are quieter.

Screws bagged on each piece

Every wardrobe or bed taken apart gets its screws in a bag taped to it. It saves half an hour at reassembly.

Valuables travel with you

Gold, passports, official papers, medicines and chargers never go in with the furniture.

Check before the last payment

Look over wardrobes, mirrors and appliances once reassembled, and photograph any scratch in front of the crew.

What to ask the moving firm

Get replies on WhatsApp; they're your record if you later disagree.

  1. Is the price final, or can it change on the day?

Especially for Jeddah and Riyadh runs. Get the definite figure after they've looked at your photos.

  2. Is the truck enclosed?

A closed box keeps sun and dust off much better than an open dyna.

  3. Is a carpenter coming with the crew?

Or just loaders? You'll notice the difference at reassembly.

  4. What does the hoist cost if we need it?

Published Madinah prices for a hoist run from about SAR 250 to 700, depending on pieces and floors.

  5. Who pays for breakages?

Repair or compensation: settle it now.

  6. How much deposit, and when's the rest due?

A small deposit to hold the date, the balance after reassembly.

Signs to look for someone else

One may have an explanation; two or three together are reason enough.

A Jeddah or Riyadh price close to a local move

It usually climbs on the road or on loading day. Ask about every item.

Won't look at even a photo

A blind quote grows on the day.

Wants it all paid before loading

Pay a deposit only, and the balance when it all arrives intact.

No fixed name or number

A firm with a registration and a clear number is easier to deal with if you fall out.

Common questions
