Shade for the car, privacy for the house, in Madinah

In Madinah the sun is the main reason people put up shades: a car parked for hours outside the house in August ends up with a cracked dashboard and a…

Gather this first

Firms quote by area, so your measurements and pictures are what let you line quotes up side by side.

Measure in metres

A two-car shade is often around 5 × 6 m, so 30 m². For a screen: wall length × the height you want.

Where's the afternoon sun?

Late-afternoon sun hits a parked car hardest. Snap the spot around 3 pm and you'll see where shade actually lands.

What's underfoot?

Tiles over concrete? Earth? Rock? Many plots in the harrah districts are rocky, which changes how the footings get planned.

Check building or compound rules

In a block or compound, ask the owner or management before fixing anything to the front or the roof.

⚠️ An old shade or screen swaying in the wind? Keep the car and children away from it on dusty, windy days until a fitter has looked at it.

What wears out shades and screens in Madinah

Sun, dust and wind. The firm decides the fix after seeing it.

Fabric faded or brittle

Year after year of strong UV breaks down cheap material. Heavier or UV-treated fabric lasts longer.

A coat of dust on top

Dust settles on the fabric, weighs it down and changes its colour. A hose-down after a dusty spell is usually enough.

The screen shakes and rattles

A tall screen with wide gaps between posts catches the wind. It needs closer posts or firmer fixing.

Posts rusted at the base

Unprimed, poorly painted steel, or water sitting at the base after spring showers.

Water pooling on top

It was built dead level. Even a little rain leaves a pocket of water that stretches the fabric.

No shade on the car in the afternoon

The shade was sized to the car alone, ignoring the sun's direction. An extra metre on the west side makes the difference.

Materials you'll see in Madinah

Each has its price, lifespan and look. Choose by use, not just by the cheapest.

PVC and polyethylene fabric

The usual choice for car and courtyard shades.

  • Polyethylene is a mesh that lets air through; PVC is solid and blocks more sun.
  • Ask the fabric weight in grams; heavier is stronger.
  • Pale colours run cooler.

Lexan, polycarbonate and sandwich panel

Rigid sheets for roofs and entrances.

  • They keep out dust and rain better than fabric.
  • Dearer per metre.
  • Ask about thickness and UV resistance.

Steel, fabric and Shinko screens

Keeping the yard and roof out of view.

  • Shinko is cheapest; steel slats are sturdiest.
  • A tall screen needs posts set close together for the wind.
  • Steel needs anti-rust primer and paint.

Simple upkeep for a longer life

Hose it after dust

Water over the fabric after every dust storm, with no stiff brush.

Tighten ropes and bolts

Once before summer and once after: bolts and tensioners loosen with heat and cold.

Paint the bases

Clean and paint any rust spot at the foot of a post before the spring rain.

Shade the tank too

If you're putting a shade on the roof, have it cover the water tank as well. The tap water will run cooler.

Ask the shade firm

Get the material, thickness and area written into the quote.

  1. Does the m² rate include installation?

Some prices cover the material only. Ask whether footings and transport are in, as some pages say they're extra.

  2. How heavy is the fabric?

PVC comes in weights and the price follows. Have the weight written down.

  3. How will the posts be fixed?

Concrete footings? Bolts into tiles? And on rocky ground, what's the method?

  4. Will the screen stand the wind?

Ask about the gap between posts and the steel thickness.

  5. Is there a fall for rainwater?

A flat shade holds water and dust.

  6. How long is each part guaranteed?

Ask separately for the fabric, the steel, the stitching and the paint.

Pause if you see these

One is enough to ask more.

One price per metre, no material

'SAR 100 a metre' without the material and thickness tells you nothing you can compare.

Posts fixed to tiles only

Tiles won't hold a post carrying wind load. It needs a footing.

Bare steel painted straight over

Fine for the first year, then rust shows at the welds and the base.

Never visits the site

Pricing from a photo alone can get the size or the ground wrong.

Four Madinah shade and screen businesses published these on their sites between December 2024 and 2026; we read each page in November 2026. They call them estimates, so they aren't binding and don't come from completed customer work. The figure you end up paying is agreed with the business alone.

Common questions

How much is a car shade in Madinah?

Madinah firms advertise from about SAR 100 per square metre, with PVC at SAR 90-220. A two-car shade of roughly 30 m² comes to about SAR 3,000-6,600 at PVC rates, and footings may be extra.

Which material suits Madinah's sun?

For cars, heavy PVC or breathable polyethylene. For roofs and entrances, rigid sheets such as Lexan or sandwich panel keep dust out better, but cost more.

Can a tall screen blow over?

It can if the posts are far apart or fixed only into tiles. Ask about post spacing and footings before it goes up.
