Your tyres in Taif: cold, rain and descents

Taif tests tyres differently from flat cities. Winter mornings are cold and pressure drops with them, spring rain makes the Al Hada and Ash Shafa…

Before the shop: read your tyre

Everything you need is printed on the sidewall. Photograph it and send it to the shop.

The size

A code like 215/60R16: width, profile and rim diameter. Stick to that size or one your car's manual allows.

Date of manufacture

Four digits in an oval, such as 2326 meaning week 23 of 2026. Rubber goes hard with age, however fresh the tread looks.

Tread depth

Put a coin in the groove. If the tread doesn't cover part of it, the mountain road in the rain will show you the difference.

Pressure while cold

Check it first thing, before the car has moved, against the pressure sticker in the driver-side door jamb.

⚠️ A bulge or a gash in the side wall? Don't take it onto the Al Hada or Al Kar road. Fit the spare or call a mobile puncture service.

Tyre trouble that keeps coming up in Taif

By road and weather. The shop confirms after checking.

Air drops every winter morning

Cold lowers the pressure inside the tyre. If it drops a lot, or only on one tyre, there may be a nail or a faulty valve.

The car slides after rain

Worn tread, or tyres hardened with age. On wet slopes that's dangerous.

The tyre's hot after the descent

Braking down Al Hada and Al Kar heats wheels and tyres. A low gear keeps the heat down.

A cut in the sidewall

Farm and rest-house tracks have stones and potholes. A sidewall cut can't be patched; the tyre has to go.

Wear on one edge

The alignment needs doing, especially after hitting a pothole or clipping a kerb.

Steering wheel shakes at a certain speed

Often unbalanced wheels, sometimes a bent rim.

Patch it, replace it, or line it up?

Not every problem needs a new set.

A patch

Something sharp in the tread, the rest of the tyre fine.

  • A patch from inside is safer than a plug pushed in from outside.
  • A cut in the sidewall can't be repaired.
  • Mobile puncture services will come to your district or out of town.

A new tyre or set

Worn tread, cracking, or a tyre that's years old.

  • Replace both on the same axle together.
  • Check the production date before fitting.
  • For pickups and dynas, ask about 8-ply tyres for loads.

Alignment and balancing

Pulling, one-sided wear, or vibration.

  • Balance with every new tyre.
  • Alignment after knocks and potholes.
  • Fix the price first; Taif shops don't advertise one.

Your tyres through Taif's year

When the cold arrives

Top the pressure up to the door-sticker figure once the weather turns, and check it every fortnight.

Before the rains

Check the tread. If it's near the limit, replace before spring, not after the first slide.

Before driving down to Jeddah or Makkah

Pressure, spare and jack. And take the descent in a low gear.

For farms and rest houses

Check the sidewalls after dirt tracks, and pick out stones stuck in the tread.

What to ask the tyre shop

Get the whole bill clear while the car is still on its old tyres.

  1. What's the production date?

Ask to see it on the sidewall yourself.

  2. Does the price include fitting and balancing?

    Or is each one extra?

  3. Is there a guarantee?

How many years, and from the agent or the shop?

  4. How do these two brands compare?

Ask for two brands in the same size.

  5. Can the old tyre be repaired?

If they say no, have them show you why.

  6. For a pickup or dyna: how many plies?

Loads on mountain roads need a tyre built for them.

Don't accept

Things that may come out cheaper today and dearer later.

A 'new' tyre that's years old

Especially if the price looks too good.

A patch on the sidewall

It won't hold, and pressure on the descent can burst it.

Two different tyres on one axle

Grip differs, and wet braking suffers.

New tyres without balancing

The vibration wears the new tyre fast.

Common questions

How much are tyres in Taif?

From a Taif tyre retailer: small and mid-size car sizes SAR 329 – 613 a tyre, and 17 – 18 inch 4x4 tyres SAR 852 – 1,308.

Why is my tyre low every winter morning?

Cold lowers the pressure. Pump it to the right figure while cold. If only one tyre keeps dropping, there's probably a nail or a leaking valve.

Yes, shops and individuals offer mobile puncture repair in and around Taif, and a multi-city firm says its mobile service starts at SAR 150.

Does Laqeeni sell tyres or take a cut?

Neither. You contact the shop or puncture service yourself.
