Tiling in Taif: outside is a different job

Indoors, tiling in Taif is much like anywhere else. Outdoors is what's different: yards, house roofs and rest-house seating areas get cold on winter…

Before asking a tiler for a quote

Measurements, photos and a decision on the tile itself. Then the quotes can be compared.

Measure room by room

Kitchen, bathroom walls, stairs, the yard and the roof all carry different rates, so list them apart.

Where does the rain go today?

Pour a bucket of water on the yard or roof and see where it sits. That's what the falls have to fix.

What's under the old tiles?

If old tiles are hollow or broken, ask whether they'll be lifted or tiled over. Lifting costs extra.

The tile you're buying

Write down size and type: ceramic or porcelain, indoor or anti-slip outdoor.

Where tiling goes wrong in Taif

Mostly outdoors, and mostly showing after the first winter.

Yard tiles click and sound hollow

Voids under the tiles, or no movement joints. The swing between night and day moves the tiles and lifts them.

Rainwater standing on the roof

The falls are weak or run away from the outlet. Over time it seeps into the ceiling.

Outdoor tiles cracked or flaking

Indoor tiles that soak up water laid outside. Outdoor porcelain absorbs less and lasts better.

Slippery on cold, wet mornings

A glossy tile at an entrance or on outside steps. On the high ground of Al Hada and Ash Shafa, damp and rain turn it into a hazard.

White bloom on the tiles

Damp under the tile brings salts to the surface. Fix the water; scrubbing won't.

Poor cuts at edges and corners

It shows in majlis rooms and bathrooms. Ask to see the tiler's earlier work.

Indoors, yard and roof, or majlis and rest house?

Each place has its own tile, adhesive and method.

Inside the house

Rooms, halls, bathrooms, kitchen.

  • Ceramic or porcelain, to suit the budget.
  • Bathrooms need waterproofing before tiling.
  • Large formats need an experienced tiler and full adhesive cover.

Yard and roof

Outdoors, under rain and cold.

  • Low-absorption, anti-slip outdoor tiles.
  • Clear falls to the outlet or drain.
  • Movement joints at intervals, filled with a flexible sealant.

Rest-house majlis and seating

Big areas and heavy use.

  • Hard-wearing porcelain that copes with traffic and floor seating.
  • Plan the cuts away from the majlis entrance.
  • Ask for a per-metre price for the whole area, not per room.

When and how to tile in Taif's weather

Spring and autumn are easiest

Cement adhesive needs a reasonable temperature to set. Check the range printed on the bag.

In winter

If you must tile outdoors, work in the warm hours of the day and cover fresh tiles overnight.

Before the rains

Finish the yard and roof before the wet season, and test the falls with water before paying.

After laying

Don't walk on the tiles or load them until the tiler says so.

Questions for the tiler

Send them on WhatsApp and ask for written answers.

  1. Is the per-metre price labour only, or with materials?

Because published Taif prices are far apart.

  2. Which adhesive will you use?

The product name, and whether it's rated for outdoors.

  3. How will you set the falls on the roof?

What gradient, and where does the water go?

  4. Are there movement joints outside?

    Where, and filled with what?

  5. Is lifting the old tiles on you?

    And taking the rubble away?

  6. Can I see earlier work?

    Photos or a house nearby.

Don't accept

Things that show up after the first winter.

Indoor tiles in the yard or on the roof

They soak up water and crack in the cold.

Adhesive dabbed on the corners only

Voids stay under the tile and it clicks.

A roof with no fall test

Pour water before paying the last instalment.

A per-metre price with materials unstated

Later you hear 'materials are extra'.

Rough guide

Rough tiling prices in Taif

Price per square metre from two Taif tilers' pages (2026). The two are far apart and one doesn't say whether materials are included, so read the note.

Porcelain layingSAR 35 – 55 per m² / 100 – 250
Marble and graniteSAR 80 – 140 per m² / 150 – 300

Outdoor tiles (yard and roof)SAR 80 – 150 per m²
StairsSAR 50 – 120 per m²

💡 The first figures come from a Taif tiler who lists them as a laying price per metre. The second come from a page that doesn't say whether materials are included, and they're much higher. Ask each tiler: labour only, or with adhesive and grout?

🧱 The per-metre figure rarely covers waterproofing bathrooms and roofs, breaking out what's already there, or skirting. Have each priced on its own line.

From two price pages of tilers working in Taif for 2026 (one updated June 2026), opened in November 2026. Prices the pages advertise, not customer invoices, and they differ a lot. What you finally pay is settled with the tiler alone; no commission comes to Laqeeni.

Common questions

How much does tiling cost in Taif?

One Taif tiler lists SAR 25 – 40 per m² for ceramic and 35 – 55 for porcelain, laying. Another page gives much higher figures without saying what's included, so always ask: labour only or with materials?

Which tile should go in a Taif yard?

Low-absorption outdoor porcelain with an anti-slip surface, laid to falls with movement joints. Glossy indoor tiles don't belong outside.

Can I tile outdoors in winter?

Yes, but in the warm hours of the day, with an adhesive suited to the temperature on its bag, and with fresh work covered at night.

Is there a commission for Laqeeni from the tiler?

No. You agree terms with the tiler directly, and they keep the whole amount.
