Dry hands, dry floor. Don't take the cover off any socket or board.
Heater, water heater, kettle and iron all at once? Switch half of them off and push the breaker up once. If it stays, it was overload.
If the tripping started after rain, don't touch any outdoor socket or floodlight. Switch off the yard or outside-lights breaker and leave it off.
Plenty of boards have no labels. On a calm day, switch them off one by one and note what goes dark. It helps you and the electrician.
Feel the extension lead or plug after the heater has run an hour. Too warm, or discoloured? Stop using it.
⚠️ A cable down on the ground after a storm, or sparks from a board? Keep clear, keep others back, and call Civil Defence on 998 if anything is burning.
The likely causes, given the season. The electrician confirms on site.
Oil heaters, water heaters and kettles on one circuit. The fix is usually spreading the load or giving the heater its own circuit, not a bigger breaker.
Water in a garden light, an outdoor socket or a junction box in the yard. The earth-leakage breaker trips to protect you.
The cable run is long and too thin for the distance. An electrician needs to work out the right size.
Voltage swings, a loose connection in the board, or outdoor bulbs not made for cold and damp.
A heater or water heater drawing more than it can take. It needs replacing, and the circuit behind it checked.
A sub-breaker, or one circuit at fault. Note which rooms are dark before they arrive.
Tell the electrician where the job is from the start; distances and loads are different.
In Al Faisaliyah, Ash Shuhada, Shubra or elsewhere.
A big yard, majlis, garden lighting, a pump.
Have the circuits that will carry heaters and water heaters checked, and add a dedicated socket if needed.
Check outdoor lights, sockets and their covers, especially in Al Shafa and Al Hada where rain and fog are more frequent.
Renting out the rest house or hosting summer guests? Check the lighting and the load beforehand.
Ask whether the bathrooms and yard are on an earth-leakage breaker. It cuts the power before harm is done.
Short questions to send on WhatsApp. Clear answers put your mind at rest before any board is opened.
And what's extra at night or on a holiday.
Let them work out the load and tell you straight.
Over long distances, thin cable warms up and dims the lights.
Covered sockets and lights, and sealed junction boxes.
On the work and the parts they fit.
And ask what the trip costs before they set off.
If you spot one, ask before letting them carry on.
The breaker protects the cable. Upsizing it without thicker cable is a fire risk.
It gets rained on and walked over. It should be buried or in conduit.
The first rain gets into it.
One message is enough and protects you both.
