Cleaning a Taif home: by season and by place

Cleaning in Taif follows the seasons. Before summer, lots of people open houses and flats in Al Hada and Ash Shafa that have gathered months of dust…

Have these ready, then ring the cleaners

Firms price on area, number of rooms and the state of the place. The clearer you are, the smaller the gap between the WhatsApp quote and the bill.

Rooms, bathrooms and floors

List them all, plus the majlis, annex and roof. A two-storey villa isn't a flat, even with the same room count.

Photos of the hard parts

Kitchen, bathrooms, windows, and anywhere with months of dust or stains. A photo saves an argument.

Furnishings you want included

Sofas, carpets, floor seating, curtains? They're usually priced separately, so say so up front.

Water and power on

In a house shut for months, make sure the tank has water and the electricity is back before the team arrives.

What makes cleaning Taif homes hard

Situations that come up again and again, and how to avoid them.

Fine dust in every corner after the winter

Houses in Al Hada and Ash Shafa shut all winter collect fine dust through the windows. It needs vacuuming before mopping, not the other way round.

A damp smell in closed rooms

Fog and rain in Ash Shafa leave shut rooms smelling musty. Airing for two days beforehand helps; ask about treating black spots in the corners.

Mud in the yard after rain

Rain carries mud from the street into the yard and entrance. Ask for a pressure wash once it has dried a little.

Floor seating and heavy carpets

Floor cushions and big rugs are hard work by hand. They usually need steam or a machine, at a price.

The kitchen after hosting

Grease from cooking for guests sticks to the hood and tiles. Ask whether cleaning the cooker hood is included.

The team finished fast and missed the corners

It happens when the deal is just 'clean the flat' with no detail. A written list protects you.

Regular clean, deep clean, or after building work?

The name changes the price a lot. Know what you're asking for.

Regular clean

You live there and it just needs keeping on top of.

  • Floors, bathrooms, kitchen surfaces.
  • The cheapest option, fine weekly or fortnightly.
  • Taif firms don't seem to advertise an hourly rate, so ask.

Deep clean or opening a house

A house shut for months, or before you move in.

  • Dust extraction, cupboards inside, windows and fly screens.
  • Detailed bathrooms and kitchen, hood included.
  • If the house stood empty, ask about washing the water tank too.

After finishing or renovation

Plaster, cement and paint residue.

  • Needs different products from everyday cleaners.
  • Costs more; firms start from about SAR 700.
  • Book it once every tradesman has finished, not before.

Cleaning through Taif's seasons

Before summer (May and June)

When Al Hada and Ash Shafa houses open up. Book early; demand rises before the holidays.

After summer

Before you lock up: clean the kitchen, empty the fridge and cover the sofas so you come back to a clean house.

First cold spell

Get heavy carpets and blankets cleaned before laying them out, and dust off the heaters.

After the rainy season

Yard, entrances and ground-floor floors. Check the walls for damp patches too.

Questions for the cleaning firm

Send them in writing before the appointment.

  1. How many cleaners, and roughly how many hours?

So you know whether it'll be done in a day.

  2. Do you bring products and equipment?

Vacuum, steamer, ladders for high windows.

  3. Are sofas and carpets included?

    Or priced separately? How much?

  4. Do you clean inside cupboards?

It matters in a closed-up house or before moving in.

  5. If I'm not happy with a corner?

Will they go back to it the same day?

  6. Do you come out to rest houses outside the city?

And is there a travel charge?

Watch out for

Things that leave the bill or the result different from what you expected.

'50% off everything'

Ask for the final price in riyals, not the percentage.

A price without knowing the size

It changes when the team arrives.

Harsh products on marble

Some acidic cleaners dull marble. Ask what they use.

Full payment before starting

Keep part of it until you've seen the work.
