Before you book an AC technician. Leave the wiring, the gas and the inside of the outdoor unit to them.
Months of standing collect a lot of dust. Wash it, let it dry, then turn the unit on.
Look for a bird's nest, leaves or bags blown onto it by winter winds. Clear them from the outside only.
On cool, at a low setting. Is the air cold? Any odd smell or noise?
After a run, check water is coming out of the pipe outside. Nothing, or drips indoors? The pipe is blocked.
Mostly down to the long idle spell or dust. The technician confirms after looking.
Spring damp and months off let mould grow on the indoor coil. It needs a deep wash, not just the filter.
Sometimes a nest or leaves have jammed the fan, or a cable has suffered in the cold and rain. The technician checks the condenser and connections.
