Everything here is done by looking. Don't open the heater, the pump or anything else with power to it.
Most water heaters have a small indicator lamp. If it's out, find the heater's breaker on the board. If it's lit and the water is still cold, the fault is inside and needs a plumber.
Go up in daylight and follow the pipes between the tank and the house. Are they lagged, or bare to the wind? Any wet patch underneath?
A roof or rest-house tank needs a tight lid. Lift it and watch the float: does it shut the water off when full, or does it overflow?
Close every tap in the house and watch the water meter for ten minutes. If the dial creeps, water is escaping somewhere.
🧯 Burst pipe pouring water? Shut the main stopcock at the meter or the tank, and switch off the heater and pump breakers until the plumber gets there.
The jobs plumbers get called out for most here, and the usual cause. The plumber has the final word once they've looked.
Through Taif's long winter the element or thermostat wears out from constant use. Scale building up in the bottom of the tank also weakens the heating.
Bare pipes on rooftops and in yards chill right down on winter nights, especially higher up in Al Hada and Al Shafa. Wrapping them in lagging cuts the damage.
Often the roof tank or a joint above it. With spring rain it's easy to confuse the two: rain getting in, or a pipe leaking? A plumber can tell them apart.
A small pump, scale in the tap, or a pipe that's partly blocked.
A broken float, or a leak on the long run between the tank and the majlis. Places only used at weekends often find out late.
If it only happens when it rains, roof water may be getting into the drain line, or the inspection chamber is full.
Both are plumbing, but you agree them in completely different ways.
Heater, leak, mixer tap, blockage.
A house going up in Al Hawiyah, Al Wesam or Shihar.
Have the heater looked at and the roof pipes lagged before the cold nights arrive, not after the first one.
Pipes on the roof or along a yard wall need wrapping. A cheap job that saves a repair.
Leaving it for weeks? Shut the stopcock, drain the exposed pipes, and check the tank when you're back.
Sediment ends up in the heater and the taps and drags the pressure down.
Message them before the visit so you both know exactly what's been agreed.
Get them to explain why. An old heater mended every winter may be cheaper to swap.
Ask what lagging they use, and whether it's in the price or extra.
If the farm or rest house is outside the city, ask about distance.
No lifting tiles on a hunch. Find it first, then fix it.
Get the brand and size in the quote, plus the pressure-test date before plastering.
In a message, in case the leak comes back next winter.
Any one of these can be innocent; several together is a reason to think again.
That isn't a repair. They need to find out why it isn't heating.
In Taif that will suffer in the first winter.
A spoken number for a full build invites a dispute.
Paying by stage protects both of you.
Most of these are starting prices that Taif plumbing firms publish, usually labour without parts. The real figure comes after they've looked.
