On a mountain road, stopping is itself a risk. Take these steps in order.
Switch on the hazard lights and move clear of the bend. If the shoulder is narrow and the car still moves, creep on to a wider spot.
If the engine has overheated, switch off and leave the cap alone. The steam scalds. Wait until it cools.
Don't carry on. Stop, let them cool, and call a flatbed. Brake fade on a descent comes on suddenly.
An exact pin beats a description, especially on the Al Hada or Al Kar road. Say which direction you were heading.
🚨 A crash, or anyone injured? Ring 911 before anything else; the flatbed can wait.
The commonest around the city, by road and season.
The Al Hada and Al Kar climbs are long, and with the AC on full in summer a car with weak cooling runs hot. Ease off the AC and watch the gauge.
Riding the brake pedal all the way down overheats it. A low gear takes the load off.
Long stretches in the wrong gear on climbs. If it starts to jerk or smell, stop.
Wrong pressure or an old tyre, plus brake heat on the descent.
A weak battery shows up more in winter cold. Sometimes a jump-start does instead of a tow.
Visibility can vanish suddenly in Ash Shafa and Al Hada. If you bump someone, take photos and move to the shoulder if you can.
Tell the driver what state the car is in and where it is, and they'll say what fits.
A car with sound wheels that can roll.
Low-slung, won't start at all, or left on a slope.
A car off the road or in a ditch.
Check them before the trip, not halfway up. Especially if the car is more than five years old.
Set the pressures and check the spare and the jack.
Avoid thick fog if you can, and in summer climb early or late afternoon.
Save two before you need them: one inside Taif, one for the road.
Before they set off. The answers fix the price and the wait.
Give the exact address, and make the price final.
If the car is on a slope or sits low, ask for hydraulic.
Inside Taif isn't the same as the mountain road.
Ask beforehand.
On the descent it really matters.
Check the roadside assistance clause in your policy.
Situations that cost you more or put you in danger.
A danger to you and everyone else. Stop and call a flatbed.
With your car already strapped on the bed, haggling is over.
Dangerous with the descents and bends.
Move to the widest spot first.

No. Stop in the widest spot, switch off, and don't open the radiator cap while it's hot. If it overheats again, call a flatbed.
