Towing in Makkah: the right truck at a fair fare

Makkah sits among mountains, and many district streets climb and drop steeply, while traffic on Hajj Street and in Al-Aziziyah thickens in Ramadan…

Before calling any tow truck

Three minutes to get yourself sorted, which matters for your safety and the price.

On a slope? Secure it

Pull the handbrake, put it in P or first gear, and turn the front wheels towards the kerb. If you can, wedge a stone or something heavy behind a tyre.

Hazards and triangle

Hazard lights on, and the triangle well behind the car, especially if you've stopped just after a bend. Passengers get out on the kerb side and move away.

Engine overheated?

Switch off and let it cool. Leave the radiator cap alone until it's cool: scalding coolant can burst out.

Your exact spot

Send your location from the map app and add the nearest landmark: a bridge, a petrol station or the street name. On the ring roads it saves the driver a lot of time.

🚨 If anyone is hurt, call 911 first. For an accident without injuries, complete the Najm or traffic police report first, then let the truck take it. In a flash flood, never drive into a valley channel.

When you'll need a tow truck in Makkah

Plenty of faults don't need a truck; these ones usually do.

A car stuck on a steep slope

On a sharp climb, a standard flatbed may struggle to pull the car on properly. Some firms bring a wheel-lift for cars stuck on slopes, so tell the driver you're on a hill.

Overheating in traffic

Long stops in Hajj Street traffic or around the central area in summer heat push engine temperatures up. When the warning light shows, stop somewhere safe and kill the engine before damage is done.

Brakes fading on a descent

A long way down, such as the Al-Hada road from Taif, heats the brakes. If the pedal feels soft or there's a burning smell, stop and wait; don't carry on hoping.

Flood water got inside

Leave the ignition alone. Get it carried to a workshop, with photos taken first for the insurer.

A low or high-end car

It needs a hydraulic full-down truck so the bumpers don't scrape. A standard flatbed's angle can scratch it.

A narrow lane in an old district

In the older districts near the centre, a big truck won't fit. Ask for a small one, or ask the driver where they'll stop.

Standard, hydraulic or wheel-lift?

Describe the car and where it's stranded; the driver picks the truck from that.

Standard flatbed

Saloons, hatchbacks, family cars.

  • The cheapest inside Makkah.
  • Fine for most ordinary breakdowns.
  • Not for very low cars.

Hydraulic full-down

Luxury, sports and low cars.

  • Lowers flat to the ground so nothing scrapes.
  • Pricier than the basic flatbed.
  • Ask about strapping the wheels.

Wheel-lift tow

A pickup, a minibus, or a car stuck on a slope or in sand.

  • For heavy or awkward jobs.
  • Give the driver a rough weight.
  • Ask whether more than one truck is needed.

Seasons and roads: before you call

Ramadan and Hajj

Streets near the Haram and in Al-Aziziyah clog, so the truck takes longer to reach you. Ask the driver exactly how many minutes, and expect delays.

Before Hajj season

A truck setting out from Jeddah can be turned away at the entry points without a permit (check the official announcement from the authorities), and in the Hajj days unauthorised vehicles are barred from the holy sites. Call a truck based inside Makkah.

Hills and descents

Mention the slope in your first sentence on the phone, so a truck that can cope is sent.

Between cities

For Jeddah, Taif, Madinah or Riyadh, ask whether the truck is closed or open, when it arrives, and who collects the car at the other end.

Questions for the driver before they set off

Fix the price on the call or by WhatsApp, not after loading.

  1. How many minutes away are you?

Makkah firms say 15 – 40 minutes, but traffic changes everything.

  2. Is the price fixed to the workshop?

Name the workshop or the district you're heading to.

  3. Standard or hydraulic?

Especially for a low car or plastic bumpers.

  4. Can you lift a car off a slope?

And ask whether they carry a wheel-lift or extra straps.

  5. Will I get an invoice?

Needed for insurance, especially after an accident.

  6. Where do you park up at night?

If it's outside Makkah, the truck may be held at the checkpoint during the pre-Hajj permit period.

Signs to call someone else

Your car is worth a lot, and a careless driver can cost you more than the tow.

Raises the price after loading

Agree before loading, and keep the figure in writing.

Drags an automatic on two wheels for a long way

It can harm the gearbox. Ask for full loading.

Doesn't secure the car properly

It should be tied at the wheels or the proper points, not the bumper.

Wants you to ride in the cab

Safer to follow in another car unless you have no choice.

Common questions

How much is a tow truck inside Makkah?

Makkah towing firms advertise from SAR 75 within the same district, SAR 75–150 for an ordinary flatbed anywhere in the city, and SAR 125–250 for a hydraulic one.

My car stopped on a hill. What should I do?

Handbrake on, in gear or P, front wheels turned to the kerb, and get out. Warn the driver about the slope, so the right equipment comes.

Can I get a tow truck from Jeddah during Hajj season?

Once pre-Hajj permits apply, a truck from outside Makkah may simply be refused entry. A Makkah-based truck is the safer choice.

Does Laqeeni take commission?

No. Laqeeni gives you the driver's number; you agree and pay the fare with them.
