Dry hands, dry floor, and leave the inner cover on. Look, don't touch.
Note its label or position. If it's the AC circuit, it's likely overload. If it's the main switch, tell the electrician.
Only at midday and in the afternoon, or at night too when it's cooler? The timing helps tell overload from a short circuit.
Bring your knuckles close to the board cover, without touching anything inside. Is it hot to sense, or is there a whiff of burnt plastic? Don't reset anything; call.
If you let out a flat or hotel-apartment, photograph the board and send it ahead so the electrician brings the right breakers.
⚠️ Sparks or smoke from the board? Turn off the main switch if you can reach it safely, take everyone outside, and ring 911.
Likely causes; the electrician decides after testing.
All the compressors start together and the breaker or cable is undersized. A bigger breaker alone isn't the fix; the cable has to carry it.
In some new villas all the ACs sit on one phase. The result is repeated trips and a hot board. Rebalancing the phases sorts out a lot of this.
Older stone houses near the Haram and in older districts can have panels that can't take today's load. A modern board with an earth-leakage breaker is far safer.
A sign the earthing is weak or missing. Some electricians say Makkah's rocky ground makes a good earth harder to achieve, so ask how they'll do it.
Voltage swings or loose ceiling connections. With guests changing every few days, a quick fix saves complaints.
Kettle, microwave and air fryer on one socket. The kitchen circuit needs splitting.
One fixes what broke today; the other stops it happening again next summer.
Short circuit, tripping breaker, dead socket.
New breakers, phase balancing, earth-leakage protection.
March and April suit a board upgrade and load rebalancing, before every AC is running.
As Hajj nears, in the weeks before Hajj (check the official announcement from the authorities), road entry to the city is by permit; an iqama issued in Makkah or a holy-sites work permit gets you in. An electrician from outside may not make it, so book big jobs earlier or hire locally.
If you run furnished flats or hotel-apartments, settle on one electrician who knows the building and comes quickly.
If rainwater reached a room or basement with sockets, leave that circuit off until it's been tested.
On WhatsApp before the visit. Clear answers will put your mind at rest.
In the run-up to Hajj an outsider may not get in, and a local can pop back if a breaker keeps dropping.
If the house has three phases, ask whether the upgrade includes rebalancing.
Key protection for bathrooms, the kitchen and the water heater.
Especially on rocky ground, ask them to explain the method.
Lights and sockets are usually per point, so count them first.
And what cover do I get if it fails within a few months?
If you see one of these, stop and ask.
Oversize the breaker on a thin cable and the wire cooks before anything trips.
With water heaters and washing machines, earthing protects your family.
That's what causes the trips in the height of summer.
An unmarked board makes every future fault harder.
