Pest spraying in Makkah: know what you're fighting first

This guide walks you through it: telling the pest from the signs it leaves, what suits each one, and when a single visit won't be enough. The figures…

Before calling: look for the evidence

A clear photo of the pest or its traces saves a wasted visit and the wrong treatment.

The kitchen at night

Kill the kitchen light for an hour, then return with a torch. Little brown roaches gathering by the sink or the fridge motor are a different problem from the big ones that crawl up the drain.

Mattress seams

Tiny black dots or blood spots on the sheet, and bites in a line on the skin, point to bed bugs. Check carefully after guests arrive from a trip.

Door frames and floor

Thin mud lines on the wall, a door frame shedding fine powder: possibly termites. Photograph it before wiping it away.

Standing water

The AC drip tray, the tank lid, plant pots. Any water left still for a week can breed mosquitoes.

🧴 Don't mix supermarket sprays, and never spray near food or children. If anyone reacts or struggles to breathe after spraying, get them into fresh air and call 911.

Pests Makkah homes see again and again

Only an inspection settles it, but this is the usual pattern.

Cockroaches in the heat

Once it passes 40°C, cockroaches look for damp and cool: drains, under the sink, the AC cupboard. Gel in the kitchen plus treating the drains is the core of it.

Bed bugs in furnished flats or visitor rooms

Bed bugs travel in luggage and second-hand mattresses. Some Makkah firms say they're more common in seasonal-housing districts such as Al-Aziziyah and Al-Misfalah. Treatment is usually steam plus spray, sometimes over two visits.

Termites in doors and floors

From real Makkah requests: termites in doors and flooring in Ash-Sharai, in a ground-floor flat in Batha Quraysh, and under a concrete floor. The earlier you start, the smaller the job.

Rats in the building

They come in through electrical rooms and light wells; in one Makkah request the trouble was inside the building's lift. That needs the landlord and neighbours, not just your flat.

Scorpions and geckos near the hills

In new schemes beside the mountains, some firms advise an outside barrier spray around the wall and yard. Ask about it if you're at the edge of the scheme.

Mosquitoes from unlikely places

Uncleaned AC trays or an open tank lid. Dry up the source first; spraying comes second.

One spray, or a full treatment?

Find out which one is on offer before saying yes.

Preventive spray or gel

Light cockroach problems in a fairly clean home.

  • Gel goes in the kitchen and bathrooms and barely smells.
  • The guarantee is usually shorter.
  • Worth doing before you move in somewhere new.

Full treatment

Widespread cockroaches, bed bugs, or more than one pest.

  • Ask how many visits and when the follow-up is.
  • For bed bugs: is the mattress steamed?
  • Get the guarantee period written down.

Termite treatment

Injection into floors, walls and door frames.

  • Usually priced by the metre.
  • Ask where they inject and how deep.
  • On a new build, ask about treating the soil before the slab.

When to spray in Makkah

Before summer

April and May, before the worst heat, to get ahead of cockroach season.

Before the guest seasons

If you let rooms or furnished flats, a check and treatment before Ramadan and before Hajj heads off bed bug complaints. Ask whether the firm gives a written treatment report.

After rain

Puddles left by rain bring mosquitoes. Dry them and tip out pots before asking for a spray.

Before the permit weeks

Crews living outside Makkah can't drive in without a permit in the pre-Hajj weeks; book a city-based firm for those dates.

Ask the pest firm

A firm that knows its trade answers these without fuss.

  1. What product will you use?

And must we leave the flat, and when can the children come back?

  2. Is a second visit included?

Bed bugs and termites usually need a follow-up.

  3. Will you text me the guarantee?

With the date, the pest treated and how many months it lasts.

  4. Do you treat the yard and roof?

Especially next to a hill or an empty plot.

  5. Where is your team based?

Before Hajj, one from outside the city may be turned back.

  6. Termites: per metre or a fixed price?

A rough measurement lets you line the offers up.

Be careful with these

None of these proves bad faith; all deserve a follow-up question.

Sprays without asking what the pest is

Bed bugs, cockroaches and termites need different treatments.

A very strong smell and no advice to leave

A proper product comes with instructions: when to go out and when to return.

A long guarantee that's only spoken

If it isn't written, it doesn't exist.

Pushes a yearly contract on the first visit

Try one visit; if you're happy, think about a contract.

Common questions

What does cockroach spraying cost for a flat in Makkah?

One Makkah firm advertises SAR 180–250 for a two- or three-room flat; a real job for a 3-room flat with hall in Al-Usaylah was SAR 300 in September 2026.

The bed bugs came back after spraying. Why?

Not all the eggs die the first time. That's why many firms include a follow-up visit about two weeks later; ask about it beforehand.

Do I need to leave the house?

It depends on the product. Check the waiting time, and take extra care if a baby or an asthma sufferer lives with you.

Does Laqeeni take commission?

No. You pick a firm on Laqeeni, call them, and pay them yourself.
