Before you hire a painter in Dammam

In Dammam, inside and outside are different jobs: indoors you care about the colour and a clean finish, while the outside walls face strong sun, humidity and dust. Before you agree with any painter, here's how to measure, which paints cope with the Eastern Province climate, and the questions that make the job last.

Before you call anyone

Have these ready before you ask for a price, so you can compare quotes properly.

Measure

For each wall: length × height. Take off doors and windows, and add the ceiling if it's being painted. For the outside, take a photo and measure the rough width and height.

Look for damp

Check the walls next to bathrooms and the kitchen, and under windows. Any damp needs fixing before painting.

The state of the outside

If the exterior paint is faded or comes off on your hand, the walls need preparing before new paint.

Test the colour

Paint a small square and look at it in the midday sun and at night. Exterior colours look lighter in Dammam's sun.

Common paint problems in Dammam

Know them before, so you can ask the painter about them.

Outside colour fades within a year or two

Strong sun fades colours, especially dark ones. Ask for a sun-resistant exterior paint, and think about a lighter shade.

Peeling next to the bathroom or kitchen

Usually damp inside the wall. It needs fixing first, or the peeling comes back.

Outside walls get dirty fast

Dust sticks to rough paint. Exterior paints that repel dirt (such as silicone-based ones) stay clean for longer.

Cracks in the outside walls

Daytime heat and cooler nights move the plaster. Cracks need filling and treating before painting, not just covering.

Old stains showing through

Damp or smoke stains need a primer before the colour.

New walls soak up the paint

New walls in the newer districts need filler and a primer first, or you'll use much more paint.

Inside or outside: what's the difference

Interior and exterior paint aren't the same, and the price is very different.

Interior paint

Rooms, living areas and corridors.

  • Ask for a low-smell water-based paint for bedrooms.
  • Bathrooms and kitchens need a paint that handles damp and can be wiped.
  • Ask for at least two coats.

Exterior paint (outside walls and boundary walls)

Faces the sun, humidity and dust.

  • Ask for a proper exterior paint, not interior paint used outside.
  • There are heat-reflecting paints; ask about the type, price and warranty.
  • High work needs scaffolding; ask whether it's in the price.

Preparing, and making the paint last

When to paint outside

Avoid summer middays and days with dust or rain. Winter and spring suit outside walls best.

Clear and cover

Take out small items, and pull furniture to the middle so it can be covered.

Fix damp first

Any leak needs a plumber first.

Keep a spare tin

Same colour and same batch, for touch-ups later.

Questions to ask a painter

Ask before they start. A good painter won't mind.

  1. Per square metre, or a fixed price?

If it's per metre, measure together before and after.

  2. Who buys the paint?

If they do, write the paint's name and type in the quote, and see the tins before they're opened.

  3. Which paint will you use outside?

For the outside, ask: is it a proper exterior paint that resists sun and humidity?

  4. How many coats, and filling and sanding?

At least two coats, with the cracks treated first.

  5. Is scaffolding, covering and cleaning included?

Agree on it from the start.

  6. What warranty do I get?

Especially on exterior paint. Get it in writing on WhatsApp.

Warning signs of a bad job

One sign on its own doesn't prove anything, but take care if you see them.

Uses interior paint outside

It fades and peels quickly in Dammam's sun.

Paints over cracks

Without filling and treating them. They'll show again within months.

Very cheap, no paint named

Ask exactly which paint. The price gap usually comes from the paint.

Wants full payment first

Keep some back until you've seen the finished job in daylight.

Rough guide

Rough prices in Dammam (a guide only)

Most painters charge per square metre. The prices below include materials unless it says otherwise. The price depends on the paint and the state of the wall.

ServiceRough price

Interior, budget paint, with materialsSAR 25 – 35 per m²
Interior, well-known brand, with materialsSAR 35 – 50 per m²
Preparing new walls (filler and sanding)SAR 15 – 25 per m² extra
Oil paint for doors and metalSAR 40 – 60 per m²
Heat-reflecting exterior paint for outside wallsSAR 45 – 65 per m²

💡 Work it out yourself: wall and ceiling area in m² × price per m². Example: a 4×4 m room (about 60 m² of walls and ceiling) in a well-known brand with materials ≈ SAR 2,100 – 3,000.

🧾 A very cheap quote usually means cheaper paint or one coat. Compare quotes for the same paint and number of coats.

A rough guide from Dammam sources (November 2026): a Dammam painter's price table including materials, and Dammam painters' ads. Prices vary a lot from painter to painter depending on the paint, so treat them as rough. The final price is agreed between you and the painter. Laqeeni doesn't set prices or take commission.

Common questions

When is the best time to paint the outside of a house in Dammam?

Winter and spring usually suit it best. In summer the heat dries the paint too fast, and dust sticks to it.

Is heat-reflecting exterior paint worth it?

It depends on the wall and how much sun it gets. Ask the painter about the type and warranty, and compare the price with ordinary exterior paint before you decide.

Does Laqeeni take commission?

No. Laqeeni is a directory that connects you with the painter directly. You agree and pay between you.
