Before you hire an AC technician in Dammam

Dammam homes usually have a lot of ACs, the summer is long and humid, and the north wind brings dust that clogs filters and outdoor units. Before you call anyone, here are the checks you can do yourself, and how to get one price for all your units at once.

Quick checks before you call

Switch the AC off before you touch the filter. Leave anything electrical, or taking units apart, to the technician.

The filter after dust

After any dust storm, take the filter out, rinse it with water and let it dry completely. A filter blocked with dust can stop an AC cooling at all.

The remote

Make sure it's on cool, not fan, the temperature is below the room temperature, and no timer is set. Try new batteries too.

The outdoor unit

Look at it from a distance: is it covered in dust, bags or anything blocking the air? Don't open it or spray water on it while it's running.

The breaker

If the AC is completely dead, check its breaker on the board. Switch it back on once only. If it trips again, call a technician.

Common AC problems in Dammam

And what usually causes them. The technician will confirm.

Weak cooling after the dust season

Dust clogs the filter and the outdoor unit's fins, so the AC works harder and cools less. It usually needs both units washed, not just the filter.

AC dripping inside the room

Summer humidity makes a lot of water. When dust blocks the drain pipe, the water comes back into the room. Ask for the drain to be cleared with the clean.

Keeps switching on and off

Could be a sensor, a blocked filter, or an outdoor unit that's overheating. Have it checked before it wears out the compressor.

Needs gas every year

Refrigerant doesn't run low for no reason. It means there's a leak, and topping up without fixing it won't last.

Damp smell when it starts

Humidity plus dust on the indoor coil grows mould. It needs a deep clean with sanitising.

Electricity bill jumped in summer

Dirty ACs run for longer. A clean before summer makes a difference to the bill.

Split, window or central: what to tell the technician

Tell the technician how many ACs you have and what type before they come, so they can price them all.

Split

A unit inside the room and one outside, usually on the roof or a wall.

  • Tell the technician where the outdoor units are: roof, wall, or somewhere high.
  • Ask for the outdoor unit to be washed too, especially after dust.
  • The more units, the more you should ask about a per-unit price.

Window

One box set in the wall. Common in older homes.

  • Ask: will they clean it in place, or take it out? Taking it out costs more.
  • Make sure the gap around it is sealed well afterwards, so dust doesn't get in.
  • If it's very old and breaks every year, ask whether it's worth repairing.

Central or ducted

Vents in the ceiling and one big unit. Found in some villas and upper floors.

  • Not every technician works on central systems, so ask first.
  • Duct cleaning is a separate job; ask about it.
  • The price usually comes after they've seen it.

When to service

Twice a year

A full clean before summer (March or April), and another after the dust season.

All the ACs at once

Book the technician for every AC in the house in one visit. The price per unit usually drops.

The filter every month

In summer, and after every dust storm.

Book early

At the height of summer technicians are busy and appointments slip. Book before the heat.

Questions to ask the technician

Ask before they start. A good technician won't mind.

  1. What's the price per unit if you do them all?

Five or six ACs? Ask for one price for the lot, not each unit separately.

  2. Does the clean include the outdoor unit and the drain?

Some prices only cover the filter and the indoor unit. Ask exactly what's included.

  3. Where's the leak?

If they say it needs gas, ask where the leak is, and whether they'll fix it or just top up.

  4. Original part, or a copy?

And ask them to write it on the bill with the price.

  5. What warranty do I get?

On the work and the parts. Get it in writing on WhatsApp.

  6. Can I see your work?

Photos of past jobs and reviews from customers in Dammam.

Warning signs of a bad job

One sign on its own doesn't prove anything, but take care if you see them.

Cleans six ACs in half an hour

A proper split AC clean takes time. If it's done suspiciously fast, it was probably just a filter wipe.

Gas every season, no repair

The leak hasn't been fixed, and you'll pay every year.

Sprays water near the electrics

The unit should be switched off and the electrical parts covered before washing.

Wants full payment first

Keep the money until you've run the ACs and checked they cool.

Common questions

How often should I clean my AC in Dammam?

At least twice a year: before summer and after the dust season. And the filter every month in summer.

Why is the price per AC lower when I have a lot of them?

Because the technician comes once and brings their equipment once. So group all your ACs into one visit.

Does Laqeeni take commission?

No. Laqeeni is a directory that connects you with the technician directly. You agree and pay between you.
