Laqeeni guide · Dammam

Before you hire an electrician in Dammam

Dammam has older districts with wiring that's been in the walls for decades, and new districts where homes are still under the builder's warranty. Add the summer humidity and the dust that comes with the north wind. Before you call anyone, here's what you can safely check yourself, what usually goes wrong in Dammam homes, and when to call an electrician straight away.

Safe checks you can do yourself

These checks only. Don't open sockets, switches or the fuse board, and don't replace parts yourself. For anything else, call an electrician.

Look at the fuse board

If a breaker has dropped, switch it back on once only. If it trips again, leave it off and call an electrician.

Just you, or the whole street?

Check whether the neighbours' houses and the street lights are off too. If the whole district is out, it's usually a power cut from the electricity company.

After dust or rain

If the fault started after a dust storm or rain, look at the roof and courtyard lights and sockets. Don't touch them if they're wet.

Try another socket

Plug the appliance into another socket, and try a charger you know works in the first one. That tells you whether it's the socket or the appliance.

🔥 Burning smell or smoke from a socket or the fuse board? Switch off the main breaker if you can reach it safely, get everyone out, and call Civil Defence (998) if there's a fire.

Common electrical problems in Dammam homes

And what usually causes them. Only the electrician can say for sure, but this helps you follow what they tell you.

Older home, faults keep coming back

In older districts like Ad Deirah, Al Amamrah and Al Badi, some wiring is old and wasn't planned for the number of ACs homes run today. Ask for a full check instead of patching one fault after another.

Breaker trips in the afternoon

At the height of summer every AC is running at once. Usually the circuit is carrying more than it can, or the breaker is too small. Never force a breaker to stay on.

Roof and courtyard lights fail quickly

Dust and night-time humidity get into outdoor lights and sockets. Ask for sealed, dust- and water-resistant fittings.

Hot or discoloured socket

Dangerous. Switch off its breaker and don't use it until an electrician has looked at it.

New villa with a fault

If your home is new, in a district like Al Fursan or Ash Shurooq, check first whether it's still under the builder's or developer's warranty before you pay an electrician.

Adding an annex or more ACs

Extra rooms or ACs may need a meter upgrade or a new circuit from the board. Ask an electrician before you buy the ACs.

When to call, and how to prepare

Call straight away if…

You see sparks, smell burning, find water near the electrics, or get a tingle from an appliance. Switch off the breaker first.

Before summer

Have an electrician check the board and the AC circuits before the heat, not at the peak when everyone is looking for one.

Group the jobs

A socket, a light and a breaker? List them all before the visit. One visit is usually cheaper than three.

Photograph the board

Send the electrician a photo of the fuse board and the problem socket on WhatsApp. It helps them give you a closer price.

Questions to ask an electrician

Ask before they start. A good electrician won't mind.

  1. Does the call-out fee come off the repair?

Many Dammam electricians deduct the visit fee if you go ahead with the repair. Ask first.

  2. Labour only, or with parts?

And ask which breakers and cables they'll use. Cheap parts are a fire risk.

  3. Can the circuit take the AC?

If the breaker trips when the AC runs, ask: is it the breaker or the wiring?

  4. Do I need a meter upgrade?

If you're adding an annex or a lot of ACs, ask whether the load needs an application to the electricity company.

  5. What warranty do I get?

How long is the guarantee on the work? Get it in writing, even on WhatsApp.

  6. Have you done jobs in Dammam?

Look at photos of their past work and reviews from real customers.

Warning signs of a bad job

One sign on its own doesn't prove anything, but take care if you see them.

Just fits a bigger breaker

To stop the tripping, without checking the cables. The breaker is there to protect the cable, not the other way round.

Runs cable along the wall with no cover

Or joins wires with tape instead of a junction box. In the heat and humidity that overheats and fails.

Won't give a price up front

Or says "we'll see later". Get the price on WhatsApp before work starts.

Wants full payment in advance

Keep part of the money back until you've tested the job yourself.

The final price is agreed between you and the electrician. Laqeeni doesn't set prices or take commission.

Common questions

Why does my breaker only trip in summer?

Because all the ACs run together and draw a heavy load. Usually the circuit or the breaker can't take it. An electrician can measure the load and suggest the fix: a dedicated AC circuit or spreading the load.

I have an older home in Dammam. Do I need to rewire everything?

Not always. Start with a full home check, and the electrician will tell you what needs changing now and what can wait.

Does Laqeeni take commission?

No. Laqeeni is a directory that connects you with the electrician directly. You agree and pay between you.
