Before you call a satellite or TV mounting technician in Riyadh

No channels, a weak signal, or a new TV to hang? Before you call anyone, read this: simple checks from inside the home, what usually causes the problem, and the questions that keep the TV secure and the channels working.

Quick checks before you call anyone

All from inside the home. Don't go up on the roof to move the dish; that's the technician's job.

The cable at the receiver

Make sure the dish cable is pushed in properly at the back of the receiver, and the TV is on the right input.

Restart the receiver

Unplug it for a minute and plug it back in.

Channel scan

If some channels disappeared, run a new channel scan from the receiver's menu.

Was it windy?

If all channels went after strong wind or dust, the dish has probably moved. Call the technician.

🚫 Don't climb onto the roof or a ladder to adjust the dish yourself. The technician has the tools and the experience.

Common problems and what usually causes them

Only the technician can say for sure, but this helps you understand what they tell you.

"No signal" on every channel

Usually the dish has been moved by the wind, or the cable is loose or damaged. It needs re-aligning.

Picture breaks up in dust or rain

The signal is weak to begin with. More precise alignment or a slightly bigger dish fixes it.

Channels disappeared after an update

Channels sometimes change frequency. The receiver needs a new scan or set-up.

The TV leans on the wall

The bracket isn't fixed well or the screws don't suit the wall. Fix it before it falls.

Lots of loose cables under the TV

Ask the technician for cable trunking or wiring inside the wall when mounting.

You want more than one satellite

You need a suitable dish and a motor or more than one LNB. Ask what's best.

Dish or TV mounting: what's different

Two different jobs, sometimes done by the same technician.

Dish installation

On the roof, with alignment and set-up.

  • The price is usually by agreement; agree it on the phone.
  • Ask whether cable and connectors are included.
  • Make sure they don't pierce the roof insulation without sealing it.

TV wall mounting

On the wall, with a suitable bracket.

  • Buy the right bracket for the TV's size and weight, or ask if they bring one.
  • Tell them the wall type (block or gypsum board).
  • Ask for cable trunking.

Tips for your dish and TV

Fix the dish firmly

Riyadh wind and dust move dishes. A solid fixing saves you call-outs.

Don't pierce the roof insulation

If the dish is on the roof, make sure the technician doesn't drill through the insulation without sealing it.

Protect cables from the sun

Cable left in the sun cracks over time. Keep it in trunking.

Think of children

A big TV must be mounted or secured properly so it can't fall on children.

Questions to ask a technician

Ask on the phone before they come. A good technician won't mind.

  1. What's the full price?

Fitting, cable and set-up. Agree it before they come.

  2. Which fixings suit my wall?

Tell the technician the wall type (block, gypsum board) so they bring the right screws and plugs.

  3. At what height?

The centre of the TV is usually 105–115 cm from the floor, depending on your seating.

  4. Are cable and connectors included?

Ask whether new cable and connectors are in the price.

  5. Will you arrange my channels?

Ask them to arrange your favourite channels on the receiver before they leave.

  6. Has anyone I know used you?

Look for genuine reviews, or ask someone who has used the technician.

Warning signs

One sign on its own doesn't prove anything, but take care if you see them.

Pierces the roof insulation without sealing it

Water could get in later. Ask them to seal the hole properly.

Hangs a heavy TV on gypsum board

Without special fixings or fixing into block or the frame. Ask how they'll secure it.

No price beforehand

Agree the full price on the phone.

Leaves the cables showing

Agree cable trunking at the start.

Rough guide

Rough prices (a guide only)

Technicians rarely publish prices for this; it's usually agreed by phone. Use what we found to spot a quote that's way off, not as fixed prices:

ServiceRough price
Fixed TV wall bracket (from big stores)SAR 25 – 65
TV wall mounting (technician's fee)From about SAR 60
Satellite dish installation and receiver set-upPrice by agreement

💡 Buy the right bracket for your TV's size and weight before the technician comes, or ask whether they bring one and what it costs.

📺 Many homes now watch channels over the internet (streaming apps) instead of a dish. Think about what suits you before fitting a new dish.
