Washing machine not draining, fridge not cooling, or a strange noise? Before you call anyone, read this: a few checks you can do yourself, what usually causes the fault, and the questions that help you avoid a bad job.
They take a few minutes and sometimes save you a call-out. Unplug the appliance before you clean anything, and don't open the back or the electrics; that's for a technician.
Is it plugged in? Plug a phone charger you know works into the same socket. If the socket is dead, check the breaker.
Make sure the door is properly shut and the washing machine's water tap is open.
Won't drain? Unplug it, put down a towel and a tray because water will come out, and clean the filter at the bottom. Often there's something small in it (a coin, a pin).
Check the temperature dial isn't on a warm setting, the door seal closes properly, and there's space behind the fridge.
And what usually causes them. Only a technician can say for sure, but this helps you understand what they tell you.
Usually the pump filter is blocked by something small (a coin, a pin). Try the check above before calling anyone.
Usually the drum bearings, or the machine isn't level. If the noise gets worse over time, the bearings need replacing.
Usually the door seal or a loose hose. Check the rubber around the door for a tear.
Every code has a meaning in the manual. Take a photo and send it to the technician so they know before they come.
Often the coil at the back is full of dust, or the door seal doesn't close.
Usually the internal drain channel is blocked. It needs cleaning, not a new part.
Most appliance technicians work on both, but the questions and the price are different.
Most faults: the drain pump, the door seal, the bearings or the control board.
If it isn't cooling, it may be the coil or the seal, or a fault in the cooling system itself.
Every month or two, clean the pump filter at the bottom of the machine.
Too much weight wears the bearings and belt. Stick to the weight on the label.
After washing, leave the door slightly open so it doesn't smell or grow mould.
Leave room behind the fridge for air, and once a year unplug it and dust the coil.
Ask before any work starts. A good technician won't mind.
And does it come off the bill if you do the repair?
Part plus labour, in writing on WhatsApp.
And what's the difference in price and warranty?
How long, and does it cover the part and the work, or only the part?
Ask for the old part they replaced, so you know it was really changed.
If the repair costs close to half a new machine, ask their opinion and think twice before agreeing.
One sign on its own doesn't prove anything, but take care if you see them.
If they say "we'll see later" and just start, think twice.
Or won't give you the old part. You have a right to know what was changed.
If you pay everything first, you have nothing left to hold back if the job isn't done properly.
Like the control board or the compressor. Ask why, get the price in writing, and compare it with a new appliance.
Rough prices for automatic washing machines at home. Use them to spot a quote that's way off, not as fixed prices. The final price depends on the brand, model and part.
| Service | Rough price |
|---|---|
| Home visit and diagnosis | SAR 50 – 150 |
| Drain pump replacement | SAR 150 – 350 |
| Door seal replacement | SAR 150 – 300 |
| Drum bearing replacement | SAR 200 – 600 |
| Control board repair or replacement | SAR 300 – 900 |
💡 Many technicians take the call-out fee off the bill if they do the repair. Ask before they come.
🧊 Fridges: we couldn't find reliable published prices; the price usually comes after inspection. Get it in writing, and compare with a new fridge if it's a big fault (like the compressor).
A rough guide from 5 sources in Riyadh (October 2026), mostly price pages of repair companies. The final price is agreed between you and the technician. Laqeeni doesn't set prices or take commission.
If the machine is under about 7 years old and the repair costs less than half a new one, repairing is usually worth it.
Usually leftover soap and water in the door seal and filter. Run an empty hot wash with vinegar, and clean the seal and filter.
