Interior designer, decorator or design-and-build firm? Who to hire in Riyadh

Three roles that get mixed up

Search for a مصمم داخلي الرياض and you will see "designer", "decorator" and "design and build" used almost interchangeably. They are not the same job. Hiring the wrong one costs money and time.

How to choose

• Only colours, furniture and curtains? A decorator is enough.
• Moving a wall or electrical points? You need a designer and drawings.
• Want everything in one hand? Use a design-and-build firm, but ask for design and execution as separate lines so you can compare.
• Many Riyadh customers search for "design and execution" together. That is normal; just get the design approved in writing before building starts.

A Saudi woman designer

Many families look for a مصممة داخلية سعودية (Saudi woman designer) or coordinator, especially for bedrooms, women's majlis and home visits. It is a fair thing to ask for. Ask who will visit the site, who will supervise, and whether you can work by message. A "woman designer" filter is planned on Laqeeni; sellers are being added.

Which papers to ask for

This is general information. The official body is always the reference.

• CR or Freelance Document: the Freelance Document is free and for Saudis only. It covers, for example, photographers, event organisers and interior decor designers. Curtains, upholstery and custom furniture usually fit a CR better. Check with the official source.
• business.sa (Saudi Business Center): for anyone selling online. Online-store verification has been handled there since 2023.
• Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE): designers who sign technical drawings should be registered with the Saudi Council of Engineers. Decor and styling studios have lighter requirements. If your job needs construction drawings, ask who signs them and check on saudieng.sa.
• Contractors: the Muqawil platform is the suggested check for fit-out contractors.
