Before you call anyone

Get these ready before you ask for a price. Quotes will be clearer and easier to compare.

Measure the rooms

Length × height of each wall, minus doors and windows, plus the ceiling. Then you know how many square metres.

Any damp or peeling?

Look at the walls. Any damp or leak must be fixed first, or you'll lose the new paint.

Choose the colour

Paint a small square on the wall and look at it by day and night before you decide.

Who buys the materials?

Decide at the start. If the painter does, you need to name the exact paint.

Common paint problems and their causes

Know them before, so you can ask the painter about them.

Paint peeling or bubbling

Usually damp inside the wall. Fix the damp first, or the new paint will peel too.

Hairline cracks in the wall

Usually from the plaster or the heat. The painter fills them and sands them before painting.

Colour differs from wall to wall

Paint from different batches, or only one coat. Buy all the paint at once and ask for two coats.

Old stains showing through

Damp, smoke or pen marks. They need a primer first, not just more paint on top.

Strong paint smell

Especially oil-based paint. Air the home well, and ask about water-based paints for bedrooms.

Visible roller marks

Thin paint or rushed work. Two coats and a good roller make a big difference.

Labour only or with materials: what's different

Most painters charge per square metre. What matters is knowing what's in the price.

Labour only

You buy the paint and materials.

  • Ask the painter how many tins you need before you buy.
  • Buy it all at once so the colour matches.
  • Ask whether filler and sanding are included.

With materials

The painter buys the paint.

  • Name the exact type of paint in the quote.
  • See the tins before they're opened.
  • Ask for materials and labour priced separately.

Getting ready, and making it last

Clear the rooms

Take out small things, and move furniture to the middle so it can be covered.

Fix damp first

Any leak or damp must be fixed first by a plumber, or you'll lose the new paint.

Keep a spare tin

A small tin of the same colour is handy for touch-ups later.

Bathrooms and kitchens

Use a washable paint that can take the moisture in bathrooms and kitchens.

Questions to ask a painter

Ask before any work starts. A good painter won't mind.

  1. Per square metre or a fixed price?

Agree the method at the start. If it's per m², measure together before and after.

  2. Who buys the materials?

If the painter does, name the exact paint, and see the tins before they're opened.

  3. How many coats?

Ask for at least two coats, plus filler and sanding where needed.

  4. Will you cover things and clean up?

Will they cover floors, furniture and sockets? Will they clean up when they finish?

  5. How many days?

How long will it take? Get it in writing with the price, even on WhatsApp.

  6. Can I see photos of past jobs?

Look at real photos of past work, not pictures from the internet, and reviews from earlier customers.

Warning signs of a bad job

One sign on its own doesn't prove anything, but take care if you see them.

Wants to paint over damp

Without fixing the cause. The peeling will come back.

Only one coat

The colour won't come out even. Ask for two coats.

Won't show you the tins

Or won't say which paint. You have a right to know what's going on your walls.

Wants full payment before starting

If you pay everything first, you have nothing left to hold back if the job isn't done properly.

Rough guide

Rough prices (a guide only)

Most painters charge by the square metre. Use these to spot a quote that's way off, not as fixed prices. The price depends on the paint, the state of the walls, and whether you or they buy the materials.

ServiceRough price
Interior painting per m² (labour only)SAR 8 – 12 per m²
Interior painting per m² (with materials, well-known brand paint)SAR 12 – 25 per m²
Example: 4×4 m room (walls and ceiling, about 60 m²) with materialsSAR 700 – 1,500
A tin of paint from a well-known brand (by type and size)SAR 30 – 460

💡 Work it out yourself: length × height of each wall, minus doors and windows, plus the ceiling. Multiply the total by the price per m².

🧱 Peeling or damp walls need filler and treatment before painting, which costs more. Ask for it as a separate line in the quote.

A rough guide from 3 sources in Saudi Arabia (October 2026), including Riyadh painting contractors' prices and a well-known paint maker's prices. We couldn't find reliable prices for a whole apartment, so we give the price per square metre. The final price is agreed between you and the painter. Laqeeni doesn't set prices or take commission.

Common questions

How long does painting an apartment take?

A medium apartment usually takes 3 to 7 days, depending on the size, the state of the walls and the number of workers.

Which paint should I choose?

What matters most is the right type for the place (bedrooms, bathroom, outside). Most well-known paint makers have cheaper and more expensive ranges, so compare and ask the painter.

Does Laqeeni take commission?

No. Laqeeni is a directory that connects you with the painter directly. You agree and pay between you.
