Before you hire a pool company in Riyadh

Green or cloudy pool water, or want a maintenance contract for summer? Before you agree with anyone, read this: what you can safely notice yourself, the difference between one visit and a contract, and the questions that keep your pool clean and safe.

Quick checks, with no chemicals

Just things to notice. Don't mix or add pool chemicals yourself, and don't open the pump or the electrics.

Water colour

Green, cloudy or clear? Take a photo in daylight.

Water level

Mark the water level and check it a day later. A big drop could mean a leak.

Test strips

Simple test strips show the chlorine and pH. Write down the result and send it to the company.

Pump noise

Loud or strange? Note it. Checking and repairs are for the technician.

⚠️ Don't mix or add pool chemicals yourself; leave them to the company. And never leave children alone near the pool.

Common pool problems and their causes

Only the company can say for sure, but this helps you understand what they tell you.

The water turned green

Algae from too little chlorine or a filter that isn't running enough. It needs treatment by the company and cleaning.

Cloudy water

Usually the filter needs backwashing, or the water balance (pH) is off.

Stinging eyes

Usually unbalanced pH, not necessarily too much chlorine. Test with strips and tell the company.

Lots of dust and leaves

Riyadh wind and dust. A pool cover helps a lot.

Water level drops fast

Evaporation in summer is normal, but a big drop can mean a leak. Get it checked.

Loud pump

Usually air in the pump or a blocked basket. Call the technician to check it.

One visit or a maintenance contract: what's different

It depends on how much you use the pool.

One visit

A single clean, e.g. before an occasion or after a dust storm.

  • The price depends on the pool size.
  • Ask whether chemicals are included.
  • Ask for the water test result.

Maintenance contract

Regular visits, especially in summer.

  • Read what it covers: labour and chlorine only, or the pump and filter too?
  • Ask how many visits a week.
  • Ask them to record the water test at every visit.

Keep your pool clean and safe

The filter

Ask the company how many hours a day to run the filter in summer for your pool's size.

Cover the pool

A cover cuts dust and evaporation and keeps the chlorine in.

Shower before swimming

It cuts the creams and sweat that cloud the water.

Children

Never leave children alone near the pool, and keep pool chemicals out of their reach.

Questions to ask a pool company

Ask before you agree. A good company won't mind.

  1. What does the contract cover?

Cleaning, chemicals, water testing, pump and filter? Every item in writing.

  2. How many visits?

In summer a pool needs more visits. Ask how many a week.

  3. Do you record the water tests?

Ask them to record the chlorine and pH reading at every visit.

  4. Which chemicals? Are they safe?

Ask what they use, especially if you have children.

  5. Are breakdowns included?

If the pump fails, is the repair included or charged separately?

  6. Can I speak to a customer of yours?

Look for genuine reviews, and ask customers who've had a contract for a year.

Warning signs

One sign on its own doesn't prove anything, but take care if you see them.

A contract that specifies nothing

Just "cleaning" with no items. Ask for every item in writing.

No water test records

You can't know if the water is balanced and safe.

Won't say which chemicals

You have a right to know what goes in the water your children swim in.

Few visits in summer

Water goes bad fast in the heat. Ask how many visits.

Rough guide

Rough prices (a guide only)

Rough prices for home and rest-house pools. Use them to spot a quote that's way off, not as fixed prices. The price depends on the size and state of the pool, and the number of visits.

ServiceRough price
Small pool (under 20 m²), per visitSAR 150 – 250
Medium pool (20 – 40 m²), per visitAbout SAR 350
Large pool (40 – 60 m²), per visitAbout SAR 500
Annual contract (8 visits a month, pool up to 22 m²)About SAR 5,000

💡 Read the contract carefully: many cleaning contracts cover labour and chlorine only, not repairs to pumps and filters.

🏗️ Building a new pool: we couldn't find reliable published prices. It depends on size, design and finish, so get detailed quotes from several companies.

Common questions

How often should a pool be cleaned?

In summer usually twice a week or more; less in winter. It depends on use and dust.

Do I need to empty the pool every year?

Not always. Most pools just need treatment and cleaning; full draining only if the water won't clear or for repairs.

Does Laqeeni take commission?

No. Laqeeni is a directory that connects you with the company directly. You agree and pay between you.
