A car shade against the Riyadh sun, or a screen for privacy? Before you agree with anyone, read this: what to prepare, the difference between materials, and the questions that keep your shade standing for years.
Get these ready before you ask for a price.
How many cars? Length × width for a shade. For a screen: length and height.
Stand in the street and by the neighbours' side and see how high it needs to be to block the view.
If you live in a building or compound, ask about allowed colours or heights.
Think about where rainwater will run off the shade.
Know them before, so you can ask the company about them.
Usually cheap fabric that can't take the Riyadh sun. Good fabric comes with a guarantee of several years against fading and tearing.
Paint that isn't rust-proof, or water collecting at the base. It needs cleaning and repainting before the steel weakens.
The tension has loosened or bolts have come loose. The company can re-tension the fabric.
Not enough slope. A shade needs a fall so rainwater runs off.
Measure the height you need from the street and neighbours before it's made, not after.
Some materials hold heat. Light-coloured fabric or insulated polycarbonate keeps it cooler.
Most important: a strong frame and a material with a guarantee.
Cheaper and gives good shade.
Stronger and lasts longer.
Lets light through and keeps rain off.
Spraying the fabric with water every few months removes dust and protects the colour.
Before summer and the windy season, have the company check the bolts and tension.
As soon as you see rust, have the company clean and paint it before it spreads.
The frame is built to hold the fabric, not things hung from it.
Ask before you agree. A good company won't mind.
The fabric type, the steel thickness and the type of polycarbonate. Get it in writing.
Measure together, and get the area and price per m² in the quote.
Concrete footings or bolts into tiles? It makes a difference to how solid it is.
How many years on the fabric? And on the frame and paint?
Ask how rainwater will run off.
Look at shades they fitted two or more years ago, not just new photos.
One sign on its own doesn't prove anything, but take care if you see them.
The fabric type and steel thickness should be in the quote.
Posts that aren't fixed properly can move in the wind.
Water will collect on top.
On the fabric, the frame and the paint.
Most companies charge per square metre including fitting. Use these to spot a quote that's way off, not as fixed prices. The price varies a lot with the material, its thickness and the frame.

💡 For PVC fabric, Korean is usually cheaper than German or European, but takes the sun less well. Ask about the fabric type, thickness and guarantee.
🔩 The frame matters more than the fabric: ask about the steel thickness and the paint (rust-proof), because that's what holds the shade up for years.
