Safe checks before you call anyone

Simple checks only. Don't open sockets, switches, light fittings or the fuse board, and don't replace any part yourself. For anything beyond these checks, call a professional electrician.

Has a breaker tripped?

Look in your fuse box for a switch that has flipped down. Switch it back on once only. If it trips again, leave it off and call an electrician.

The whole house, or one part?

If the whole house is off, check whether the neighbours have power. If the whole district is out, it's usually a power cut, not a problem in your home.

Is there water nearby?

After rain or a leaking AC, check for water near a socket or the fuse board. If there is, don't touch anything, and switch off the main breaker only if you can reach it while standing dry.

The socket or the appliance?

Plug a phone charger you know works into the same socket, and try the appliance in another socket. That tells you where the problem is.

Common electrical problems in Jeddah homes

And what usually causes them. Only an electrician can say for sure, but this helps you understand what they tell you.

Rusty or crackling sockets and switches

Jeddah's humidity and salty sea air corrode the copper over time, especially in kitchens, bathrooms and balconies. A corroded socket can overheat, so have an electrician replace it.

Breaker trips when the AC is on

In humid air the AC runs longer and draws more. Usually the circuit has too much on it, or the breaker is too small for the AC. Never force a breaker to stay on.

Power cuts out when it rains

Usually water getting into an outdoor socket or a roof or courtyard light. It needs sealing or weatherproof fittings.

Hot socket or burning smell

Dangerous. Switch off its breaker straight away and don't use it until an electrician has checked it.

Lights flickering or failing quickly

Could be the driver or a loose connection, and humidity shortens the life of spotlights in exposed places. If the whole house flickers, it's a bigger problem.

Older home, faults keep coming back

In older homes the wiring may be worn by years of humidity. Ask for a full check instead of fixing one fault after another.

When to call, and how to prepare

Call straight away if…

You see sparks, smell burning, find water near the electrics, or get a tingle from an appliance. Switch off the breaker first.

List all the jobs

A socket, a light and a breaker? List them all before the visit. Most electricians give a better price for one visit.

Choose damp-proof fittings

In bathrooms, kitchens, balconies and courtyards, ask for water- and humidity-resistant sockets and lights. They last longer in Jeddah's climate.

Before the rainy season

Have an electrician check outdoor sockets and lights, and make sure water can't reach the fuse board.

Questions to ask an electrician

Ask before any work starts. A good electrician won't mind.

  1. What's the price, before you start?

Is it labour only or with parts? Does the inspection fee come off the repair?

  2. Will the parts cope with humidity?

For damp areas, ask for water-resistant parts. Cheap breakers and cables are a fire risk, so ask which brand and check the part meets Saudi standards.

  3. What caused the fault?

If a breaker trips or a socket has corroded, ask them to explain why, not just swap the part.

  4. What warranty do I get?

How long is the guarantee on the work? Get it in writing, even just on WhatsApp.

  5. Can I test it before I pay?

Run the AC and the appliances on that circuit and make sure the breaker holds.

  6. Can I see photos of past jobs?

Look at photos of past work and genuine reviews from earlier customers.

Warning signs of a bad job

One sign on its own doesn't prove anything, but take care if you see them.

Fits a bigger breaker just to stop the tripping

Without explaining or checking the wiring. Ask why it was tripping, and whether the cables can take it.

Cleans the rust and refits the same socket

A corroded socket will overheat again. The proper fix is usually to replace it.

Wants full payment before starting

If you pay everything first, you have nothing left to hold back if the job isn't done properly.

Leaves wires showing

Or a socket with no cover, or the fuse board open. In Jeddah's humidity that's even riskier. Ask them to close everything up before they leave.

Rough guide

Rough prices in Jeddah (a guide only)

Rough prices for labour only, in homes. Parts (sockets, breakers, lights) are usually extra. Use them to spot a quote that's way off, not as fixed prices.

💡 In Jeddah, home-service apps are often cheaper for small jobs (a socket, a light), while an independent electrician suits faults and bigger work. Compare before you decide.

🛒 Buying the parts yourself? Ask the electrician which type and rating you need, and whether it should be humidity-resistant.

A rough guide from 4 sources in Jeddah (November 2026): prices published by home-service apps, a Jeddah electricians' price table, and a service ad. We couldn't find enough real Jeddah customer jobs with prices, so treat these as rough. The final price is agreed between you and the electrician. Laqeeni doesn't set prices or take commission.

Common questions

Why do sockets corrode in Jeddah?

High humidity and salty sea air affect copper over time, especially in kitchens, bathrooms and homes near the sea. Humidity-resistant fittings last longer.

What should I do if rain gets into the electrics?

Don't touch wet sockets or appliances. If you can reach the fuse board while standing dry and away from the water, switch off the main breaker, then call an electrician to check before you switch back on.

Does Laqeeni take commission?

No. Laqeeni is a directory that connects you with the electrician directly. You agree and pay between you.
