Quick checks before you call anyone

Simple things with an ordinary screwdriver. If the wood is broken or the piece is heavy, leave it to the carpenter.

Hinge screws

A door or wardrobe door hanging crooked? Tighten the hinge screws. That fixes many cases.

Only sticks in summer?

If a door or drawer sticks in the humid months and is fine later, the wood has probably swollen with humidity, not broken.

Tap the wood

A hollow sound, a soft spot when you press, fine dust or tiny holes? It could be termites. Call pest control before the carpenter.

Photos and a count

Photograph the pieces or the problem, count what needs assembling, and photograph the old lock if it's being replaced.

Common problems in Jeddah and what usually causes them

Only the carpenter can say for sure, but this helps you understand what they tell you.

Door sticks or won't close in summer

Humidity swells the wood, especially bathroom doors and doors that touch the floor. A carpenter can adjust it or plane the bottom slightly, and seal the edge against damp.

Swollen wood under the sink or behind a wardrobe

The MDF has soaked up water from a leak or a damp outside wall. Get the plumber to fix any leak first, then replace the panel.

Wood hollow inside, or fine dust

A sign of termites. They eat wood from the inside, so the surface looks fine. Don't move the piece much; call pest control first, then the carpenter replaces the damaged wood.

Drawer sticks or won't close

Usually the runner has come out, or the drawer has swollen with humidity. Runners can be replaced cheaply.

Outdoor wood faded or cracking

Jeddah's sun, salt and humidity are hard on outside doors and wooden pergolas. It needs a fresh protective coat.

Bed or wardrobe wobbles and creaks

Screws loosened after a move. Tighten them; if the wood has broken around a screw, you need a carpenter.

Assembly or repair: what's different

The kind of job changes how you're charged.

Furniture assembly

New flat-pack furniture, or taking apart and reassembling a room or a whole flat.

  • Send photos and a count of the pieces and ask for one price for everything.
  • Keep boxes and screws together, and check every part is there.
  • Ask whether fixing to the wall is included.

Repairs

A door, hinge or drawer, or wood damaged by damp or termites.

  • Send a photo of the problem before they come.
  • If there are termites, pest control comes first, then the repair.
  • Save all repairs for one visit.

Make your furniture last longer in Jeddah

Leave a gap behind wardrobes

For wardrobes against an outside wall, leave about 2 cm between them and the wall so air can flow and damp doesn't build up.

Fix leaks quickly

Water swells wood, and damp wood attracts termites. Dry the area after any leak.

Check the wood every 6 months

Tap the bottoms of doors and the backs of wardrobes, and look for fine dust or holes.

Protect outdoor wood

Re-coat outside wooden doors and pergolas every one to two years. Try a drop of water: if the wood soaks it up, the protection has worn off.

Questions to ask a carpenter

Ask before any work starts. A good carpenter won't mind.

  1. Per piece or per room?

Agree how you'll be charged at the start, and get the price on WhatsApp.

  2. What's the price for everything?

Send photos and a list of every piece before they come, so the price is clear.

  3. Will the new wood cope with humidity?

For kitchens and bathrooms, ask for moisture-resistant boards, and whether they'll seal the door edges.

  4. Is wall fixing included?

If cupboards or shelves go on the wall, ask whether screws and wall plugs are included.

  5. What guarantee do I get?

If something leans or creaks after assembly, will they come back and fix it for free?

  6. Can I see photos of past jobs?

Look at real photos of past work and reviews from earlier customers.

Warning signs of a bad job

One sign on its own doesn't prove anything, but take care if you see them.

No price beforehand

If they say "we'll see later" and just start, think twice.

Replaces termite-damaged wood without pest control

The termites will move into the new wood. Pest control has to come first.

Furniture wobbles after assembly

And they leave without adjusting it. Ask them to fix it before you pay.

Wants full payment before starting

If you pay everything first, you have nothing left to hold back if the job isn't done properly.

Rough guide

Rough prices in Jeddah (a guide only)

Most carpenters charge per piece or per room. These are rough prices; use them to spot a quote that's way off, not as fixed prices.

BedSAR 70 – 150
WardrobeSAR 60 – 200
TV unitSAR 90 – 210

Whole flat (take apart and reassemble)From SAR 500

💡 A whole bedroom or a kitchen: send the carpenter photos and a list of the pieces and ask for one price for everything. It's usually cheaper than paying per piece.

📦 Small flat-pack pieces are often cheaper through home-service apps, while whole rooms and repairs suit an independent carpenter. Compare before you decide.

A rough guide from 3 sources in Jeddah (November 2026): prices published by a home-service app, and price tables from Jeddah carpenters and furniture assembly companies. We couldn't find enough real Jeddah customer jobs with prices, so treat these as rough. The final price is agreed between you and the carpenter. Laqeeni doesn't set prices or take commission.

Common questions

Why do doors stick in Jeddah?

High humidity swells wood, especially in summer and in bathrooms. It usually needs a small adjustment or a light plane and sealed edges, not a new door.

How do I know if there are termites?

A hollow sound when you tap the wood, a soft spot, fine dust, tiny holes, or mud-like lines. Call pest control before repairing the wood.

Does Laqeeni take commission?

No. Laqeeni is a directory that connects you with the carpenter directly. You agree and pay between you.
